Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country. The National Family Partnership organized the first nationwide Red Ribbon Campaign in 1988. Since that time, the campaign has reached millions of U.S. children.  The "Red Ribbon" became the symbol to reduce the use of illegal drugs and violence.

Red Ribbon Week is celebrated during the last week of October each year in schools and communities to increase awareness about alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) prevention, as well as to kick-off a year of prevention that promotes drug-free lifestyles.

Here at Jefferson Elementary School, we take pride in celebrating the choice of living a healthy lifestyle free of drugs and violence through various events. We encourage you to talk with your children about Red Ribbon week and the following activities to promote the event.  Parents are more than welcome to attend any of the activities.

OUR SCHOOL ROCKS DRUG FREE!
Red Ribbon Week coming soon: 10/23-10/27
Red Ribbon Week was established to honor Enrique Camarana, a drug enforcement officer who gave his life in the fight against drugs.  The Red Ribbon became the symbol to reduce the use of illegal drugs and violence. At Jefferson, we will celebrate the choice of living a healthy life free of drugs and violence through various events. We encourage you to talk with your student about the week and the following activities. Our biggest objective for the week is to emphasize making good choices as it is appropriate for specific ages and grade levels.
