Green Committee

If your 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade student is interested in being part of Jefferson’s Green Committee, and doing his or her part to help the environment by encouraging fellow students to make environmentally responsible choices, we would love to have him or her join the Green Committee.

The first Green Ambassadors meeting of the school year will be on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19 after school at the picnic tables behind Room 3. All interested students should attend that meeting and bring a completed permission slip with them. Our once-monthly meetings typically last 30 minutes, and are held either in Room 3 or Dolphin Square, weather depending. We do meet more frequently in the month or so leading up to Earth Week in April. On September 19, we will discuss preparations for the October 4th Walk to School Wednesday kickoff and other fun activities we will be doing throughout the year.

Green Ambassadors will help promote trash free Tuesday, lunchtime trash sorting, and Walk to School Wednesdays. All Green Ambassadors should serve as green role models for their peers, and so should pack trash free lunches as much as possible and help encourage their peers to properly sort their lunchtime and recess trash. Green Ambassadors also will help with Earth Week events, and other green and sustainable events throughout the school year.

Parent volunteers are needed, too, particularly during Tuesday lunches and Earth Week! If interested in helping out, please contact Green Committee Chair Catherine Wieman (
